ART BY CHANCE 2010 SELECTION \ TIME
Time stands still. Time passes. Time defines the balance humanity seeks to establish in modern life. Since the very rejection of time by primitive societies its concept has dramatically changed. Today our concepts of time play an important role in shaping the way in which we live our lives. Art by Chance 2010 has set out to explore how the perception of time is unique to every individual and how time can influence the narrative of city life, one of modern man's greatest challenges. Films touching the untouchable theme of time in their own time.

Michael Ramsey \ Is This Your Limb? \ USA

Adapted from a Craigslist Missed Connection. Produced by the Collective Hunch. A man sprints for his train, drops his prosthetic arm and keeps running. Michael Ramsey began his film career in 1999 as an underwater cameraman filming bottlenose dolphins and bull sharks daily.

Bele Albrecht \ Up and Down at Day \ Germany

This film is part of a series of videos with animated plasticize figures. This video circle is about the typical in human behavior, relationship and emotion - the big as well as the small ones. Bele was born in 1983 in Munich. Since 2004 she study art at the academy of fine arts in Nuremberg.

Emilia Straszak, Marek Straszak \ 17.01.1922 \ Poland

17.01.1922 is a documentary about Marek's grandmother's life. They have visited places that are very important for her: the home of her childhood, the old factory where she used to work, places and things she touched. Somehow the story becomes very universal.Marek Straszak
is interested in all kind of audiovisual experiments.

Manas Bhattacharya - Madhuban Mitra \ Temp Mort (dead time) \ India

The film explores the ruins of India's first and only still camera factory . Shut down years ago, the factory produced the only 35 mm still camera ever made in the country. Manas and Madhuban's current collaboration explores the ruins of India's only still camera factory.

Arttu Lehtovaara \ Timebank \ Finland

The film is a futuristic view of a man trying to buy more lifetime for himself from an ATM-like machine. Arttu was born in Turku, Finland in 1976, and
he is still living there. He study film and TV production for the first year. He loved movies all of his life.

Georgi Krastev \ Parallel Spaces \ Bulgaria

They both arrive on the right place and on the right time but they don't meet each other. Born in 1986 in Varna, Bulgaria. Currently studying Film & TV Cinematography and Photography at the National academy for theatre and film arts in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Aaron Rositzka - Julius Krenz \ Twentyfourseven \ Germany

Twentyfourseven is a picture of time-lapse-like wrap up of a typical day at the office. Twentyfourseven's main objective is to shed a light on the ever recurring cycle of boredom and anesthesia in modern urban life. By doing so with a winking eye, it also ridicules all mankind efforts to overcome that cycle.

There is cold outside but she just keeps spinning the clocks. This short film has filmed in the beach in the coldest winter in Latvia over 60 years, there was -30 degrees outside when the film was made. Zane is an enthusiastic student in multimedia arts class at the Janis Rozentals art school in Riga, Latvia in the last year.

An alarm clock is encapsulated in a block of ice, suspended by a chain. Originally performed as a sound piece, the melting water drips into a copper vessel , amplified by a contact microphone. Kathryn Maguire is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. She has a BA in Fine Art Sculpture and a MA in Art in the Contemporary World.

"Thanks Warhol" is the first film Caley has made for festival submission. It was inspired on a Sunday night by the need for inspiration and motivation to pursue what one wants. Caley Jane Dimmock is a twenty year old creative free-spirit hailing from Nova Scotia, but now resides in Vancouver.

The film creates a weird rush scene with comical characters and a surprise final. Daniel Coss and Niall Staines both reside in Dublin, Ireland. Daniel is an animator and Niall a graphic de- signer.They are currently working on a series of shorts called King Prawn.

Eckhard Kruse \ How to Use Time Flexibly \ Germany

The film shows new ways how to deal with time more flexibly. Eckhard Kruse studied Computer Science at the Technical Univer- sity Braunschweig, Germany (and for one year in Pisa, Italy) and obtained a Ph.D. in the areas of robotics and computer vision.

Frank Becker - Bernd Straub Molitor \ Half a Minute of Eternity \ Germany

In half a minute of eternity, we see the modest sketch of a man "moving without moving" - travelling through space while just standing quietly by a river (classical symbol of floating time). Frank Becker, born in 1954 Solingen Germany, is a photographer.

The film shows the eternal waiting. Amila Galappatthi is a Sri Lankan, young film maker based in Colombo. Being a self taught film maker he started film making by making a short film called "Jala Bheethikawa" in 2005. And he is currently working in the Advertising as a Writer/Director.

Sylvain Favardin - Ludmila Korenarova \ Follow the White Rabbit \Belgium
